Reading Challenge update

To save money I decided to only read free or second-hand books for this challenge. I've had great fun finding ones that looked interesting and fit the criteria (details here )
First book was one I found on Amazon FREE (I love free books) to download for e-reader on my PC

This was for
A book with something you'd see in the sky in the title
I opted for 'Moon Dance : Vampire for Hire' by J.R. Rain as I'm a sucker for anything vampire (hey I even tried Twilight!) You can download this from Amazon
This was an enjoyable read but hardly one for stretching my mind.

A mum of 2 and a federal agent is turned, leading her to change jobs and become a private detective. The story starts with her juggling her 'condition', raising a family and her career. This isn't helped by her husband behaving as though she is going to dine on him and the kids any day now.
She takes a new case involving a man who was shot multiple times yet survived and during this case her home life is destroyed.

I don't want to spoil this for you so I'll stop there. It's a good easy read for bedtime, but I prefer something a little less blah

I've just started my book for
A book with a topographical feature (land formation) in the title
and (so far) it looks to be less fluffy easy reading than 'Moon Dance' (I'm so glad). I'm reading 'East of the Mountains' by David Guterson.

Since I've only read the first chapter I can't really give you the run down, but, I'll give you the blurb from the back.

"When Dr Ben Givens left his home in Seattle- heading east with his Winchester and his hunting dogs in tow - he never intended to return. It was to be a journey past snow-covered mountains to a place of canyons, sagelands and orchards, where, on the verges of the Columbia River, Ben Givens had entered the world and would now take his leave of it. What transpired was not the journey he anticipated."

I have to add I get nothing (except perhaps warm fuzzies) if you click through and buy from Amazon, I just like to read and share what I read to perhaps help others find new reading material.

New Year and my plans

Happy New year all. I have 1 big resolution this year. I WILL quit smoking.

I have a few stitchy plans for the new year as well (in no particular order)

Finish the quilt for Erin (my back needs to calm down a bit first)
A tea towel set for my aunt (from this book )
A kindle case for my mum (using Urban Threads Little Koi )
Blackwork Samurai (Maria Diaz )
Lost Dragon sampler (by Dragon Dreams)
Of Woods and Wilderness (by Dragon Dreams)
Last years SAL from Lady Periphaeria
I also have a plush to make but that is top secret as Erin has been known to read my blog

I also hope to do at least one card or papercraft item a week (get a head start on Christmas cards for once!)

Also this year I will be doing my level 2 maths and English. I can't believe how much I had forgotten since leaving school, they also do things so different now.

The big change coming this year is my baby will be starting big school (high school) in September. Seems it was only yesterday I first held my lil ladybug in my arms, but, this year she turns 11. She is growing up so fast and has a very definite idea of her make up style.

My smaller resolution (although probably the hardest lol) is to blog at least weekly with progress pictures (and reports on the big quit)

ME strikes

Well major flare up last night so I've been in bed today (I love the laptop) but yesterday was worth the pain.

We set out for Liverpool at 8:15 and arrived about 8:45 so we went straight to Starbucks. Of course the gingerbread latte was my drink of choice, husband had eggnog latte and lil miss had a kids hot chocolate.

Since we were suitably fuelled we went shopping in Liverpool 1. My first stop was Disney store where I found some adorable ornaments. I managed some restraint and only bought 2! Winnie-the-Pooh bauble and the cutest teeny stocking with Mickey on and stuffed with candy canes.

Next stop was the Lego store. When I win the lottery I fully intend to go crazy there, but, since I haven't I only bought a cute keychain for the husband (a ninjago figure shares his name) and a money box for lil miss.

Of course the main reason for visiting was the Christmas Market. It really is lovely to wander around and, of course, plenty of 'Mummy can I have' from lil miss. The market is open until 22nd December.

We also visited Liverpool town hall (first time) as there was vegan event with tastings, lectures and cookery help. Lil miss has decided she really likes vegan sweets and cheese. Event details

I have a strange premonition that I will be visiting Liverpool again very soon as the Coca Cola truck is scheduled to visit Liverpool 1 on 1st December and Clayton Square 2nd and 3rd December.

The last stop before the bus home (and a heavenly cuppa tea) was a new (to me) store we just chanced upon.
New Beginnings is such a lovely shop. I only really looked at the make up counter (and bought a gorgeous polish), but, a Sonic plush was spotted by lil miss and the ladies who run that area were so friendly and helpful when we enquired about a Tails plush. Next time I think we'll check out the cafe :)

Perhaps the least enjoyable part of the day was food shopping so I won't say any more about that.

I may have a crap day today, but, I have images of my daughter enjoying a morning in town and having fun. They totally make up for the ouchies.

Well I guess weekly blogging is off then?

Maybe I'll have more success blogging monthly (or yearly?)
No real excitement here (is there ever?) but, I'm doing fairly well in the maths and English courses. I can't believe how much easier I'm finding it now even though I'd forgotten almost all of the GCSE stuff.

Good news is lil missy doesn't seem to be bullied anymore and there is some headway on diagnosis and therapy. Her nurse through CAMHS is so lovely. She has given lil missy a box to decorate and put in things that she likes/hates. The box is very sparkly at the moment and she has loved decorating it.

Crafts right now :- Halloween quilt has been postponed as I want to make a bright and pretty one for Christmas.
I did make a mad fluffy rug for lil missy and gave it to her tonight. Bright rainbow fun fur and hot pink/lilac and white fun fur. Looks quite nice really.
Need to stitch a Claddagh and want to applique a dragon (both patterns from Urban Threads) and I have a panel with Russian dolls (pattern from Sublime Stitching)
The quilt blocks are crazy, seriously. Fabrics used include rainbow cats, pink hippy guitars, cupcakes, ladybugs and a pink floral print. Very colourful and a little haphazard (just like my lil missy) So you can see a theme in it, right?

Well I need to go pierce my fingers some more

Nail Dilemma

I can never decide what colour to paint my nails. I have several different colours (understatement) yet I can't find the one that feels like me for the day.

Anyways I decided today was a red kinda day so I looked out my red polishes and discovered I only have 2. I can't believe it. I have 5 different blues, 2 blacks (and a crackle), 3 greens I even have an orange and a yellow (I hate those 2 colours). So why only 2 reds? I suppose red is the 'normal' nail colour to me and I prefer using less traditional colours. Any recommendations for a nice red polish (or 3) and any other colours would be great.

On to the craft side now.

I'm busy trying to stitch some Halloween ornaments from Just Cross Stitch magazine and I need to make an anniversary card for my other half (11 years!!)

Baking cookies with lil missy tonight and then I'm going back to school tomorrow. Refresher maths and English and I'm terrified.

I think that about covers my life right now but I'll leave you with a gorgeous picture

Bullies

My daughter has been having a hard time at school since one boy has decided that calling her names, insulting her, threatening her and occasionally hitting her (always away from any witnesses, coward that he is) is the best use of his time.

I plan on calling Bully Busters today as, fabulous though the school is, they only class it as bullying if he is demanding money or some other material object. That said they have spoken to this child and it seems to have no effect.

We are so torn right now as lil miss has anxiety issues anyway and a few other problems. I really don't want her to have to deal with any more of this nonsense.

Shattered nails?

I gave in and bought a bottle of that shatter polish from BeautyUK in Goth (black of course) as at £2.99 I figured it wasn't a huge loss if I hated it.
I used George at Asda polish in Groove which, I have to admit, looks a little flat on nails but amazing in the bottle :(
The pink works really well with the black and comes alive some, so I guess it's good as a base but not on it's own (for me anyway)
I'll admit I wasn't too sure about the shatter effect at first, but, after looking at it for a while I think I would use it some more and have decided that my next purchase will be Barry M in White Frost for over my lovely array of really dark polishes. Lil Missy wants Pink Fizz and I'll probably buy BeautyUK's Glam Rock (silver) or maybe BarryM will have a silver one by then.

Now I need to direct you to The London Lipgloss as she was lucky enough to meet The Saturdays and have a look at the new nail polish they are bringing out. I know lil missy was super excited when I told her (and I'll admit I want them all too)

Crafting is a little slow for me right now, I lost my mojo. But I need to get cracking for a few swaps and my Halloween stitching. Will try and get hubby to take pics of some ATC's I've done (I love the P is for.... one) and I'll share

Hello Strangers

I kinda gave up on blogging since my camera and scanner both died but I've decided I can still bore everyone and even more now since it will just be me blethering on and no pretty pictures *evil laugh*

I'm still crafting and I'm even starting work on my first quilt (which may be finished in time for Halloween 2020 lol)

I've also developed a new blog reading obsession, Beauty blogs!!
I love make up but generally can't be bothered a whole lot. Since lil missy is now 10 (and a bit lol) she is so interested in make up and loves trying new polishes and lipsticks (applied semi normally instead of her clown make up of earlier years) so my interest has been revived and I'm even thinking of trying new colours instead of my neutral everything and black/blue/purple nails. At the moment I have a french manicure style in red with black tips after missy painted my nails red and said 'You rock red mum'

So reading all these beauty blogs I've discovered several must haves, a few wishlists and lots of 'They want how much for that??' Even better though is the reviews that show the cheaper cosmetics really are good value (I already knew MUA was)

I promise to blog at least once a week whether it be crafts, beauty, random or a complete load of nonsense

Rant Warning

I guess it is quite fitting that my first post in ages is related to boobs since it has just been Breast Cancer Awareness month (it doesn't mean you can stop checking them until next October though)

This is a pet peeve of mine in all areas of clothing and has been for years, but, today I decided I needed to rant.

Firstly, even though I am well endowed, I stiil want pretty bras. I just don't want to sell my first born for them.

Secondly, why do they think that ladies with an ample bosom want padding in their bra. I have plenty of my own thank you.

Let's not forget those women who have had mastectomies. Finding a bra can be difficult, then, when you do they are expensive (there are a few reasonable ones about) and often not that pretty. I'm sure many want extra pretty bras, I know I would.

Now the main reason for this post. Why can't the sizes be standardized? Would it kill them to agree what 38" is?
Yup you guessed it. Hubby went and bought me a new bra on Monday and it fits lovely. He got the only one they stocked in my size (plain in black or pink) but at least it fits,didn't cost the earth and there was 1 style that accepted women can have breasts bigger than a C cup.
I ordered some more from a larger ladies shop same size, pretty and a little more expensive. Guess what. Yup they don't fit. Oh the cup size is fine, but, I really doubt since taking my new bra off for bed last night and my trying the newly arrived bras on today, I have added several inches to my back.
So gotta return the bras and I think I'll stick with trawling the high street trying to find a bra that fits and doesn't cost the earth. Maybe I'll be lucky and find a non padded pretty one too (I think I just heard the wee demons shouting 'Snow day')

I'm hoping to go for a tour of the local police station with Erin tomorrow and then back to school for a few weeks before her summer holidays. She's adapted to school life really well so I'm hoping to have a little surprise for her at the end of term. Before that there is a cookery lesson, chocolate day (unfortunately she has to take chocs in and they watch a DVD as a treat), summer fayre, sports week and who knows what else.

Midnight Madness Sketch Challenge #25

Well Erin lost another baby tooth on Sunday (aaw little gappy) so I had to make a cute fairy card. Of course it had to be PINK as well.

This was the sketch used from Midnight Madness Sketch Challenge

This is the card I made.

The little flourish is hot pink and sparkly (it doesn't really show up) I used micro beads that I forgot were in my stash. The image is from Magnolia and the middle block is holographic silver card.

A wee update on the murder mystery scavenger hunt from Chita Hearse. I won first prize :) I let Erin choose something she wanted and she chose the skeleton swallow necklace. How cool is my lil bug

A digi stamp Halloween Card

I happen to think this little monster is a cutie. She was free from Digi Kitty for the Halloween Blog Hop. I say she as her fur is too well groomed for a he :)
I know there are debates over the whole digi stamp thing, whether it is crafting or not etc. Personally I love both. Digi will never replace my rubber stamps, but, there are things you can do with a digi that you can't do easily with a rubber stamp. I can resize, flip, rotate and I'm always guaranteed a perfect print (assuming the printer is behaving) also they are cheaper than rubber stamps and I guess more eco friendly as there is no rubber used, no mailing and less card/paper wastage.
I was going to say that with rubber stamps you can stamp in any colour, even though I have a colour printer (DOH!) but in the defence of rubber stamps you can stamp on anything and emboss them.
I'd love to hear your views on this.

Midnight Madness Sketch Challenge

Polly craft Challenge card

I have another 2 cards to share with you today, I know what on earth happened? I think I was taken over by an alien or something like it as not only have I made 2 cards (and scanned them) but, I've also said I will make the Christmas pudding for the family meal this year. First up is for the Polly Craft challenge of tangerine, chocolate and turquoise (have I said how I detest orange) I I did use one of my favourite Pollycraft stamps though
I also used the sketch from Friday Sketchers (fairly close but I had to put something in the top left corner)

This card was made for my Great Aunt who was 89 this Thursday. She doesn't look her age though.
I decided to go for the Sugar Bowl challenge as a starting point as I had the perfect stamp in mind. Sugar Nellie's Demure. The challenge called for lace but I couldn't find any (I know I have some) so I used broderie anglais instead. I followed the sketch below from The Sugar Bowl

Midnight Madness Sketch Challenge 23, Bombshell challenge and more

At last my scanner is working again :) so here is my take on the Midnight Madness Sketch Challenge #23. I made it for the staff at DD's school.

The next one is for the Bombshell challenge using black, green, orange and (optional) purple . Of course a Bombshell stamp must be used too :) This also fits a challenge on Smeared and Smudged / Cajun Stamping Queen for their 31 days of Halloween (see sidebar). I thought why not a merwitch who wishes to be a regular gal on Halloween and sees it in her magic mirror :) I know purple was optional but I like purple :D

This last card is too late, but, it was for a challenge over on Cupcake Crafts which was buttons and stitching.

To round it off, here is the proof picture for my daughters first school photo. I think she looks adorable.

What has the stitchinwitch been up to lately (other than blogging about giveaways)?
In all honesty not a great deal worth writing about. I have done some crafting but have no pictures (I know it's awful)
I will post about my DD's exciting life though :D
As many will know I homeschooled madame until this year when she decided that school was something she wanted to try. Well she loves it. She only does half days right now as it is so different, but, she does some full days and enjoys them too. Already she has loads of friends and a crush (aaaaawww).

She has a busy week coming up. Wednesday year 4 is off on a field trip (I want to go too), Thursday is school picture (I can't wait) and Friday is wear your own clothes to collect groceries for pensioners. We used to make up 'baskets' and leave them at the altar for the Harvest mass when I was in primary school, but madame is taking in biscuits and maybe a couple of tins in payment for wearing her own clothes.

The other news is that her school has been in the news recently as one of OFSTED's top schools having received an outstanding report 2 years running and achieving excellence against the odds.

Where to begin. Well since I last blogged so much has happened (I have a note from my mum excusing me from blogging miss)

First a family issue led to myself and Erin having to go to mum's for a month during which time the landlord was supposed to fix the kitchen ceiling and deal with the damp and missing tiles. Never happened. For all it wasn't ideal (I need my space) Erin and I had some lovely times and Jay thankfully had Flash to keep him company and visited with us as often as possible.

The other big thing................Erin decided she wanted to try school so she is now (well so far not this week but I'll get to that) a student in St Monica's year 4. She loves it and has shouted at me for keeping her off school since she is sick lol.

Crafts
I have been crafting but my PC died so all my drivers/software needs re installing and with sickness, school and wanting to craft I haven't got around to it yet, but I will and then I will scan things (probably). With the latest nervous breakdown of my PC (she's very sensitive) we've decided to spoil her and upgrade our windows as soon as we can (still on ME here lol).

SBS sorry I've not been about but I will be visiting your blogs later (I expect them to be in tip top condition too)

Good news is.................It's nearly Halloween YAY and to celebrate that I splurged and bought some new stamps. Pumpkin and Aubergine from the Daisy and Dandelion range

Seriously I think everyone is crazy here especially Flash who went completely crazy over his new teddy (so much so I've had to hide it as it needs 'surgery')
This is the crazy pooch in question (looking sweet and innocent)
He even buried his dental chew in my cover and decided it would be fun to eat it through the fabric. Gotta love him though.

I will add pictures of my crafting here often, but not everything gets on here. I do add almost all my crafty stuff to my F lickr though so feel free to nose (and add me as a friend)

Well first the big news in the Rat Cage. Along with my seven rats (did I blog about my 2 boys? If not I best update you lol. I have 2 brown hooded boys called Mark and Tom and they are gorgeous) we now have the most adorable 3 1/2 year old dog called Flash. I will get some pictures up of him soon I promise. He's a Saluki Lurcher and soft. He adores Erin (of course) but you'd be best going to my hubby's blog for regular waffle about him. Lurcher Diary

It started off as a very beige dull canvas with a scene of mods so a few coats of paint were needed.

I used Bombshell Stamps for the background, nautical stars and the pin up girl and Queen Kat designs for the 'Love'

First card is for my uncle. His birthday isn't until February but when looking for something to use for the Pollycraft challenge to make a male birthday card I came across the cutest teddy bear golfer (and the best thing is he was a free download). You can find the free downloads here on the site.

I haven't been ignoring anyone or a lazy blogger (honest). My net went down Wednesday and only came back on today :( You'd think I would have got some extra crafting in, but no, my mojo went along with my connection.
I'm also waiting on redelivery of a couple of parcels. Sods law that the one day I'm out they arrive just after I leave. There were 3, now correct me if I'm wrong, but, you would assume if you filled in a redelivery request you would want all parcels to be redelivered. Not according to RM, you have to fill out several redelivery requests, of course with my PC being slow and me being tired after the trip to see Santa I didn't check the FAQ's I (foolishly) assumed that they would all be redelivered. Since the net was off I then had to ask my folks to arrange redelivery, and guess what, yup they were meant to come today but at 3:30pm I'm beginning to think it isn't going to happen *pouts*

I know what 1 is and I hope the other is what I think it is but I am not a happy bunny.

On the subject of bunnies I won the most adorable stamp from Sally and gave it to my daughter. She adores it and wants to know if she is officially a Bootiful Stampz member since the bunny is the logo :) Look at the bunny stamps here

I've come back to discover that I won on the Polly Craft Challenge too :D

That was the challenge over at Whiff of Joy Challenge Blog. Since I know Santa is bringing Erin a few books this year I thought I would use my favourite stamp and make a bookplate (more to be made though as I know she is getting at least 3 new books)

We went to visit Santa in his grotto based at Chevasse Park in Liverpool One today and Erin had a wonderful time as afterwards we went to Build a Bear Workshop (I hope to get a picture of Erin with her new friend tomorrow).
Erin looks so happy I just have to share this picture with you all

I've been really quiet this week, partly because I just haven't been crafting and partly because I've been rushing to get the advent calendar sorted and get ready to put up decorations.

This is for the PollyCraft Challenge
I used the free papers from the challenge, green ribbon, some flowers a friend sent me and a Penelope image from the Doodle Dreams download at Pollycraft
I'm just waiting on some inks to be able to do some more as I have a few ideas

Well I have 1 card to share today (made a few days ago but only just scanned). This is for the Polly Crafts Challenge which was to have at least 3 circles. I used 4 little buttons this was also my first time using my new watercolour pencils from Salfra over on Swap-bot. I'm liking the watercolours :)

I have made a couple of other cards with a diamond theme for a team challenge over on Aunty's forum but to see them you'll have to go over there and check out the gallery :P
